History & Accomplishments
BAMA Kids, Inc. developed in 1993; following the killing of a nineteen-year old African American male, by a local store owner. A coalition for youth development, led by community and civil rights activists, was formed; fueled by a passion to respond to this killing. The consensus was that the community must take responsibility for its youth, and provide positive activities for them. Programming began, forming partnerships with existing community entities, which provided start-up resources and infrastructure for BAMA Kids, Inc. BAMA Kids, Inc. has built a solid reputation for youth and leadership development across the Black Belt Region of the State of Alabama, and beyond. BAMA Kids, Inc. has served thousands of youth and their families. Many have gone on to become successful and productive citizens.
